Jen
Cloher and The Endless Sea Live
at The Gov' July 2005 |
Jen Cloher
and The Endless Sea waded through a sea of initial indifference by
much of the large crowd that was more
intent on talking, drinking and smoking! Three songs in and things
were changing. Any band that performs tracks from Bruce Springsteen’s “Nebraska”(State
Trooper) and Gillian Welch’s “Soul Journey”(Look at
Miss Ohio) has won me over. Michael Hubbard’s lead and slide guitar
work was a delight to behold. Vocalist Jen Cohler has a dynamic presence.
Her delivery became increasingly stronger and more emphatic to the extent
that by the end of the set she had most of the crowd enthralled. Mention
was made of an upcoming initial CD release in October. Watch out for
it ‘cause this is a band that will go places, riding high on the
Triple J boosted “nouveau roots”resurgence. Jen Cloher "Permanent Marker" CD review |
