Podcast 379 from sablues.org
Blues Time feature
Othman Wahabi

This podcast presents an uninterrupted medley of various Blues classics including
~ Blind Willie Johnson’s ‘Nobody’s Fault but Mine’,
~ the traditional African-American spiritual ‘You Gotta Move’,
~ Son House’s ‘Grinnin' in Your Face’ and also
~ the traditional folk ballad of 'John Henry'.

John Henry was an American folk hero, an African American working on a railway tunnel through the mountains of West Virginia in the early 1870s. He was a "steel-driving man" whose job was to hammer a steel drill into rock to make holes for explosives to blast the rock in constructing a railroad tunnel.  According to legend, John Henry's prowess as a steel-driver was measured in a race against a steam-powered rock drilling machine, a race that he won only to die in victory with hammer in hand as his heart gave out from stress.
