Blues Time feature
September’s Synopsis. A summary of past rock, roots and blues events that occurred in the month of September.

In September of 1918 OKeh was founded by Otto K. E. Heinemann when he set up his own recording studio and gramophone record pressing plant in New York City. Heinemann formed the name of the record label “OKeh”, from his initials. He wished to experiment with music for audiences neglected by the larger record companies.  The first recording of vocal blues by an African-American artist followed two years later, with vaudeville singer Mamie Smith's record Crazy Blues selling more than a million copies in less than a year, uncovering a previously unimagined market for "race" records. It was thanks to Okeh that in the pre-war years many significant African American blues and jazz artists were recorded including Blind Lemon Jefferson.
From OKeh’s renowned 8000 race series Podcast 360 inludes item number 8455 from 1927 it is the Blind Lemon Jefferson 78 with Black Snake Moan on the A side and on the b side …Matchbox Blues.
